Candle Care

A little care goes a long way.

Coconut-based wax burns beautifully, but how you burn your candle matters. These simple steps will help it burn more evenly, last longer, and perform the way it was intended to.

The first burn matters

The first time you light your candle, allow the wax to melt all the way to the edges of the vessel before extinguishing it.

This establishes an even melt pool and helps prevent tunneling on future burns. Depending on the candle and your space, this may take a few hours.

Trim the wick

Before each burn, trim the wick to approximately ¼ inch.

A properly trimmed wick helps keep the flame steady and reduces excess soot, smoke, and mushrooming at the tip of the wick.

If the flame becomes unusually tall or begins to flicker heavily, extinguish the candle, allow it to cool, trim the wick, and relight.

Give it time—but not too much

For the best burn, allow enough time for the wax to melt evenly across the surface.

Avoid burning your candle for more than four hours at a time. Longer burns can cause the vessel to become excessively hot and may affect the way the candle performs.

Keep the wax clean

Keep matches, wick trimmings, and other debris out of the wax pool.

Candles should always be burned on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from drafts, fans, open windows, children, pets, and anything flammable.

Know when to say goodbye

Stop burning your candle when approximately ½ inch of wax remains at the bottom of the vessel.

It can be tempting to get every last bit of wax, but allowing a candle to burn too low can cause the vessel to overheat.

Between burns

Extinguish the flame gently with a candle snuffer or wick dipper when possible, then allow the wax to cool completely before moving the vessel or trimming the wick again.

Once cool, your candle is ready for its next pause.

A final note

Every candle is hand-poured, and natural variations in coconut-based wax can happen. Small changes in texture or appearance do not affect the candle’s performance—they’re simply part of working with this kind of wax.

Light it. Let it settle in. Stay awhile.
